Unknown Woman 65

Yeo-Ri protects Bom but Jiwon begins to plan her next attack.

Woman Without a Name Episode 65 RECAP

Haejoo glares at Maya who is being embraced by Yeo-Ri.

Meanwhile, Doyoung wonders about how Jiwon has become the CEO.  Jiwon quickly answers that she’s just protecting the position from Do-Chi.  He’s been trying to take over the company this whole time.  She barely protected it.

At the same time, Do-Chi takes Maya out and Haejoo calls the police about Yeo-Ri kidnapping her daughter.  Yeo-Ri doesn’t back down and pulls out the DNA test results, which clearly state that Maya Kim and Yeo-Ri are biologically related.  She tells Haejoo to go ahead and call the police but be prepared for their investigating Jiwon for kidnapping Bom in the first place.

Haejoo runs after Yeo-Ri into the hallway.  She begs Yeo-Ri not to take Maya away. Yeo-Ri doesn’t back down.

Do-Chi calls Maryun so that they let Mooyeol go home.  He immediately runs in to yell at Maryun asking how she would let her son lose everything like this.  Was helping a stranger more important than protecting (and lying for) her son? Enok just snaps back that she was protecting him from the inevitable comeuppance that he’d receive from heaven.

Yeo-Ri and Do-Chi arrive at home with Maya.  Kidong and Maryun rush up to hug their granddaughter.  Maya is silent and Yeo-Ri pulls her parents into a separate room to explain that she hasn’t told Maya about being Maya’s mom.

Yeo-Ri then goes to her room where Maya is staring at the photograph of her younger self.  Maya asks why Yeo-Ri has that picture…is it of her lost daughter Bom? Yeo-Ri answers yes.

Maya notes that it is also a picture of her younger self…Is she by chance Yeo-Ri’s lost daughter? Yeo-Ri pulls Maya into a hug.  She cries that yes, Maya is her believed daughter. The two then burst into tears.

As for the baddies, Haejoo goes home to freak out.  She makes it all about HER. Because ruining someone else’s life by stealing their child is nothing.  She trashes Maya’s room asking how the heck Maya could go to Yeo-Ri after all that Haejoo did raising Maya.

Jiwon comes home and pulls Haejoo into a hug.  She tells Haejoo that she understands how much Haejoo loved Maya. Jiwon promises to bring Maya back.

At the same time, Do-Chi is in Doyoung’s room.  Doyoung asks if Haejoo is freaking out about Maya. Do-Chi kneels down and asks if Doyoung remembers…and, if he knew about Maya being Yeo-Ri’s daughter. Doyoung answers that he found out right before the accident and that’s why he fought with Jiwon.  Doyoung also explains that he has not recovered all of his memories. So, he wants to keep it a secret from Jiwon.

That night, Maya and Yeo-Ri spend the night together.  Maya asks Yeo-Ri why Yeo-Ri left her when Yeo-Ri loved her so much. Yeo-Ri sighs and tells Maya that it’s complicated.  She cannot explain right away but will explain when Maya is a bit older.

The next day, Yeo-Ri goes into Jiwon’s office the first thing.  She throws down the complaint that she filed with the police of Jiwon kidnapping Bom.  Jiwon plays it cool demanding evidence.

Yeo-Ri leaves and runs into Mooyeol in the hallway.  The snake is unrepentant.  He asks how Yeo-Ri could file a motion to terminate his parental rights when he’s Maya’s biological father who raised Maya.  Yeo-Ri reminds Mooyeol that he was the one who threw away Bom when she was a baby.  She would have done more but left him with just the termination of parental rights since he raised Maya.

At the same time, Jjangu brings Do-Chi a proposal.  He explains that he was told from the secretary that it’s already been approved by the higher ups and just needs Do-Chi’s signature.  Do-Chi sees that it’s been signed already by three others and signs off.

The two go checking out their vendor shops and Do-Chi offers to pay for a set of new clothes for Jjangu’s family.  Jjangu quickly agrees.  But, then Do-Chi remembers that he forgot his wallet.  Jjangu pays and tells Do-Chi to pay him back.  When Jjang checks his account, he realizes someone deposited $500,000 into his account!  Do-Chi tells Jjangu to look into it quickly.

Later, Do-Chi and Yeo-Ri come back to the office after they had lunch with the team.  They see a bunch of reporters walk in and follow.

At the same time, the secretary tells Doyoung that Jiwon is planning to frame Do-Chi for money laundering.  She planted the money into Do-Chi’s friend’s account and scheduled a reporter’s teleconference. Doyoung decides to not let this happen.

Yeo-Ri also calls Jiwon about the teleconference after getting a weird feeling. Jiwon answers that Yeo-Ri will find out soon as it’s about Do-Chi.  Of course, Jiwon also adds that Jiwon can call off the conference if Yeo-Ri brings Maya.

MY TWO CENTS

Another great episode for this daily drama.  Now that Yeo-Ri has Bom but we still have over 30 episodes to go, the writer and the DRAMA production team must work hard at keeping us engrossed.  Tying in the Bom drama with the takeover of the company was a great twist.

The episode passed quickly as I wondered what Jiwon was scheming.  I knew that Do-Chi should not sign the proposal but I could also see that he would trust Jjangu.  After all, they just won a battle in bringing Bom back.  Would he have a reason to trust something that came through Jjangu?  But, oh dear, money laundering? I think he’s going to need some major inside support to get through this trap.

Unknown Woman 64

Yeo-Ri gets a DNA test for Maya and Maya finds out about her biological mother.

Woman Without a Name Episode 64 RECAP

Yeo-Ri steps on one officer’s foot and elbows another. She runs out after Maya but Haejoo and Mooyeol get away. Maryun and Kidong arrive too late.

At the same time, Jiwon brings Doyoung his medicine. He asks Jiwon how he fell. Jiwon answers that Doyoung always had high blood pressure. He fell from that.

Then Haejoo calls Jiwon saying they don’t know where to go. Jiwon tells Haejoo to take Maya to the summer house. Jiwon then calls the housekeeper and orders that he tells no one about Haejoo coming.

Yeo-Ri arrives at the Koo residence while Jiwon is still in Doyoung’s room. She tells Do-Chi that she’s going to reveal everything from Jiwon taking away Bom to Maya being Bom.

Do-Chi reminds her that she needs evidence. So, they go up the stairs to Gaya’s room and ask to see his album. Yeo-Ri also asks if he has any pictures of younger Maya. Gaya does.

Then they go to the bathroom where Yeo-Ri asks about Maya’s toothbrush. Gaya points out which one is Maya’s and Yeo-Ri takes it. Gaya asks why Yeo-Ri keeps asking about Maya including going on television about it.

Yeo-Ri and Do-Chi ask Gaya if he saw her on the missing child’s program. He answers that he did and Yeo-Ri was standing in front of a picture of Maya. But, he hasn’t said anything because his mother told him that if he talks about it, Maya will leave.

Yeo-Ri and Do-Chi go downstairs and run into Jiwon. She demands to know what they were doing on the second floor. Yeo-Ri responds by demanding to know where Jiwon took Maya.

Haejoo and baddie team arrive at the summer house. Maya asks why they came there. Mooyeol tells her that they came on vacation and Yeo-Ri knows.

But Maya is unable to sleep. She decides to ask her parents why she keeps getting told different things…she walks out of the room unnoticed as Mooyeol and Haejoo brood. Haejoo wants to send Maya to study abroad while Mooyeol does not agree. Haejoo reminds Mooyeol that it’s not just about winning custody, Yeo-Ri is going to accuse Jiwon of kidnapping Bom. They need to keep Maya away from Yeo-Ri so Maya never finds out that Yeo-Ri is her biological mother.

Maya gasps at the last sentence. She goes back into the room and the door slams.

Haejoo decides that she will talk to Maya. She goes in and sees the poor girl pretending to sleep with a tear stained face. Haejoo remembers how Maya was when Maya first came to their family and brought Haejoo out of her depression. Pulling Maya close, Haejoo apologizes that she loved Maya but the adults got into a mess and berated and hated on Maya for no reason.

At the same time, Do-Chi calls the keeper and is told that they cannot use the Yangpyong summer house as the water isn’t working. They realize that it means Haejoo is hiding there and leave.

But, it’s too late, Haejoo and Mooyeol have already left.

Yeo-Ri decides that they need help. The person who sent her the hair must have been Enok.

The next day, Yeo-Ri goes to Enok’s store. She asks Enok to ask Mooyeol where he’s taken Maya.

Enok runs away.

So, Yeo-Ri follows to Enok’s house and even kneels in front of this evil lady. Yeo-Ri cries and begs Enok to help before Mooyeol and Haejoo send Maya abroad.

Finally, Yeolmae and Enok decide to be humans. Yeolmae calls Mooyeol and lies that Enok has fainted. Mooyeol rushes over as soon as he hears.

Meanwhile, Doyoung regains the memories of how Jiwon left Do-Chi for dead after the accident. He wakes up and gasps to find Jiwon there. She’s dropped by to check on him. Doyoung barely lies that he didn’t regain any memories.

In front of Enok’s apartment, Maryun, Kidong and Oliver arrive. The DNA tests showed that Maya is Bom!

When Mooyeol finally arrives, Oliver and Kidong grab him. Mooyeol refuses to tell them where Bom is.

So, Yeo-Ri decides to check his navigation history. It shows that the second place Mooyeol went after the summer house was Daehan hotel. When he refuses to give up the room number, Yeo-Ri calls the hotel asking with the excuse that she’s calling from WID Group and she needs to deliver important documents.

Maryun and team agree to hold on to Mooyeol so that he cannot alert Haejoo and Yeo-Ri and Do-Chi head off.

On the side, Doyoung finds out that Jiwon changed the legal ownership of all of his assets to herself.

Yeo-Ri rushes into the hotel as Haejoo asks Maya if Maya would not mind leaving Korea as a family… Haejoo, Mooyeol, Maya and Gaya. It would be like how they lived in China without any outside interference.

Back at the company, Jiwon goes into her office to find that the door is unlocked. She yells at her Secretary but he just awkwardly looks back into the office. Jiwon turns to find Doyoung sitting in his leather chair smirking.

Yeo-Ri reaches the hotel room and rings the bell. Haejoo opens the door thinking that it’s Mooyeol. When she sees that it’s not Mooyeol, she tries to close it but Do-Chi pulls it open, evil family or not.

Yeo-Ri runs in crying for Maya. Haejoo on the side calls for Maya as well. Haejoo continues to entice Maya but Yeo-Ri stops when she sees how confused the child is. Only her tears keep flowing.

Maya takes a few steps forward and then runs into Yeo-Ri’s arms.

MY TWO CENTS

Finally! Yeo-Ri and Maya are together! I am so thankful that the drama did not drag this out another ten episodes. If we had gone through several subarcs of Yeo-Ri finding and then losing Bom again, I would have lost it.

The past few responses had been mainly about how I felt. So, I want to take the time here to really applaud the main actors and actresses in this drama. Even though the plot is obviously makjang, they do a great job playing their characters without overdoing it. Before I knew it, I was engrossed in Yeo-Ri’s struggle to find Maya who is right next to her… I also began to hate Haejoo and Mooyeol with a passion more than I hated Jiwon. Thinking back, I can only attribute this to the strong acting of these characters.

While I am rooting for Oh Ji-Eun’s character (Yeo-Ri), I want to especially shout out for Choi Yoon-So, the actress playing Haejoo. She plays a nice girl and main character’s supportive friend in the weekend drama Woman of Dignity. Her character is so quiet and nice, it is the exact opposite of Haejoo. I respect her being able to swing both roles at the same time.

Unknown Woman 63

Haejoo and Mooyeol fight to keep Maya from Yeo-Ri, even stealing her again.

Woman Without a Name Episode 63 RECAP

The baddies react. Mooyeol tells Haejoo and they call Enok several times. However, she’s busy cooking and doesn’t pick up for a while.

Then Enok pauses to drink an herbal drink because she’s tired after making a mess of things. She finally sees her cell phone and calls Mooyeol back. Mooyeol tells Enok that Yeo-Ri knows and to leave the apartment immediately.

At the same time, Yeo-Ri is still on the phone. She cries and tells Maya not to go anywhere. She also apologizes for not recognizing her sooner.

Enok’s evil valueless ways continue. She goes in and tells Maya that they need to go to her parents now.

When Maya hangs up the phone, Do-Chi accelerates. Enok grabs a random suitcase and drags Maya out until Maya pauses crying about her stomach. Still determined to kidnap Maya from her biological mother (which is a felony if Enok wasn’t an idiot), Enok tells Maya to get on her back.

Yeo-Ri and Do-Chi arrive at the apartment but no one answers…

Meanwhile, Maya cries in front of the taxi that her stomach hurts. Enok sighs thinking out loud that if she forces Maya to run, Maya’s injuries might get worse but if she stops to take care of Maya, Mooyeol would be in trouble… She decides to save her pathetic son who has done nothing but hop from one girl to another and tells Maya to get in the cab.

Suddenly, Yeo-Ri calls out for Maya from up the street. Maya looks up and smiles. Enok quickly tells Maya to get in the girl and tries to pull the girl in but Maya runs off to Yeo-Ri.

Enok falls to the ground crying that they met. Because everyone knows that it’s hard work lying to everyone to save face about your lies…

Yeo-Ri hugs Maya and cries that she’s sorry she didn’t realize sooner…

Mooyeol and Haejoo finally arrive. They demand to know where Maya is. Finally, Enok states the facts. They kidnapped Maya in the first place.

Yeo-Ri brings Maya to Maryun’s house and asks about how Maya knew she was the child. Maya pulls up her shirt saying that she even had the clover birth mark but Jiwon had it removed. Then Maya complains about her stomach pain. Yeo-Ri has Maya rest in her room.

Meanwhile, Gaya gets bored at home and demands to see Doyoung. With Maryun and Kidong backing up the kid’s right to see his grandpa, Gaya goes in.

Doyoung doesn’t recognize Gaya. So Gaya tells Doyoung that he had two grandchildren, Gaya and Maya. Maya’s name trigger bits of memories. Doyoung sees the scene where he saw the missing child footage on the video and how he confronted Jiwon. He seems himself fighting Jiwon and falling.

Doyoung calls out in pain reaching for his head. Then he falls out of his wheelchair.

Gaya’s calls for his grandfather brings in Maryun and Kidong. Then Jiwon arrives.

Do-Chi calls Maryun who is still at the Koo house. She yells at Jiwon for being so evil that she would kidnap a child and lie that the child died. Jiwon continues to deny it. So, Maryun promises to return to kill her after Maryun gets evidence.

At the same time, Yeo-Ri tells Do-Chi that she’s worried about Jiwon trying to take Maya back. He calls the police about an illegal entry so that they send some officers.

Do-Chi arrives at home and demands to know how Jiwon could do what she did. Jiwon yells back that she would never raise Yeo-Ri’s child. After all, what baddie backs down and apologizes? Apologize? That’s something you expect from someone with decent.

Do-Chi then yells that he’s going to enter Doyoung’s room. Doyoung smiles to see Do-Chi and sighs that he feels like he’s the only one stuck in the past. Do-Chi reassures Doyoung that all of Doyoung’s memories will eventually return…He’s been running forward for a long time, he can take this time to rest before starting up again.

Doyoung then asks how he got hurt as he’s still weirded out by the memories of fighting with Jiwon. Do-Chi answers that no one knows for sure…However, Doyoung did have a loud argument with Jiwon before people found him unconscious. Also, he had prepared divorce papers…

At the same time, Haejoo continues her downward spiral. They know that Yeo-Ri won’t just give up Bom. So, she tells Mooyeol that they cannot barge in…

Then the police arrive and Yeo-Ri opens the door in relief. She explains that she was the one who called for protection…her and her child. The officer asks where Maya is.

Yeo-Ri answers automatically that Maya is in the room before staring at him. She asks how he knew Maya’s name when no one told him. Suddenly, Haejoo and Mooyeol barge in. They told the cops that Yeo-Ri kidnapped Maya.

Since Mooyeol and Haejoo are legally Maya’s parents, the cops stop Yeo-Ri as the two take Maya away.

MY TWO CENTS

Omg. The last five minutes of this episode was horrible! How Haejoo could continue to fight to keep Maya after Yeo-Ri found out that Maya is Bom is just impossible to understand. Instead of knowing when to give up your evil antics and apologize, she digs in. The only way to come to terms with this crazy makjang behavior is that no one taught Haejoo basic values?

I have nothing else to say other than I need to watch the next episode. Now that Yeo-Ri and family knows, this drama better not drag out Yeo-Ri getting Bom back.

Unknown Woman 62

Yeo-Ri finds out that Maya is Bom.

Woman Without a Name Episode 62 RECAP

Mooyeol sits in the living room after saying hello to Doyoung. He broods over how Doyoung clearly asked about both Secretary Hong and his wife. He comes to the conclusion that Jiwon is not Haejoo’s mother.

At the same time, Enok gasps at seeing Yeo-Ri embracing Maya and the two happily being together. Instead of finally telling the truth, she tells Yeo-Ri to go home.

Oliver calls Enok to tell her to come out to the shop. There’s an internal leak and all of the store owners need to come and sign the maintenance forms. Yeo-Ri offers to watch Maya but Enok refuses. She grabs Maya to take the poor girl with her dragging her along.

After a few steps, Maya falls while cradling her stomach. She cries that the area that she had the surgery on hurts. Finally, Enok acts like a grandmother and sighs that it’s too early to rush Maya around. She tells Maya not to tell Yeo-Ri about the poster and leaves.

Left alone with Yeo-Ri, Maya asks if Yeo-Ri knows that Maya is adopted. She cries about whether she has to leave her family if her biological parents come looking. Yeo-Ri smiles that Maya won’t have to leave…Everyone loves her.

Then Yeo-Ri helps wash Maya’s face. She also tells Maya to change since her clothes got wet. When Maya changes, Yeo-Ri sees the scars from the earlier scar removal surgery. Maya is about to answer but Mooyeol arrives.

Yeo-Ri goes back to Maryun’s house. Maryun explains that a child called saying she’s the girl on the poster. She also adds that Kidong is running the telephone number.

That night, Do-Chi and Yeo-Ri get back to the Koo residence late. Do-Chi decides to stop by Doyoung’s room and pauses outside when he sees the door slightly ajar even though the lights are off. It’s Jiwon just standing there staring at Doyoung.

Do-Chi turns on the lights and enters asking loudly what Jiwon is doing. She brings him back outside saying that Doyoung needs his rest. So, Do-Chi tells her that he’s going to hire guards for Doyoung’s room. Jiwon smiles that she’s the only thing that Doyoung remembers, does Do-Chi really want to take that away from Doyoung?

The fight continues in the morning. Jiwon has had Doyoung moved into their room and tells off Do-Chi and Yeo-Ri when they confront Jiwon about moving Doyoung too early.

After they leave, Jiwon tells Doyoung not to trust Do-Chi or Yeo-Ri. She tells him that he sent Do-Chi to the United States as a child to take over the company, which Do-Chi knows about. Do-Chi is now trying to take the company back. Meanwhile, Yeo-Ri entered the family trying to get revenge. She pauses and smiles that she’s truly on Doyoung’s side so he should trust her and only her.

Do-Chi is unable to work. He calls Maryun and Kidong asking them to visit and keep an eye on Doyoung. They happily agree to help.

Maryun and Kidong immediately go to keep an eye on Doyoung. As they have tea, Kidong gets a call with the address for the telephone number.

At the same time, Yeo-Ri has a meeting with the design team where it’s announced that her design was most popular on the online vote.

And, Mooyeol meets with a private investigator who confirms that Jiwon is Doyoung’s second wife…Mooyeol then goes to accept Jiwon’s offer to be on the same team.

He adds that he has one condition since he doesn’t trust her after she backstabbed her husband of decades. He wants half of the shares that she took from Doyoung.

Jiwon immediately orders that Mooyeol leaves the company and the house. Mooyeol smiles and adds that she cannot be so confident… After all, she’s not Haejoo’s biological mother. What will Haejoo do after she finds out?

Jiwon backs down and offers 20% of the shares. Mooyeol agrees.

At the same time, Yeo-Ri gets out of her meeting and checks her phone. Do-Chi had sent her a message letting her know that they found the address. When they get together, Yeo-Ri recognizes the address.

They run into Yeolmae on the way to Maya’s apartment. Yeo-Ri asks if they ever let in any other child other than Maya. Yeolmae confirms that no other child has stayed with them.

Yeo-Ri and Do-Chi rush off and Yeolmae goes to tell Mooyeol about the weird run-in.

On the way, Yeo-Ri runs through her memories and realizes that Maya is Bom. Back when the DNA results confirmed parentage, they didn’t even think about checking Maya when Kelly had stayed at Maya’s house.

Finally, Maya calls Yeo-Ri back on the cell phone. Yeo-Ri strains out the question if Maya called the missing child line. Maya confirms.

Yeo-Ri asks why Maya called. Maya answers that the picture on the poster was hers… Yeo-Ri bursts into tears.

MY TWO CENTS

Finally! After 60 episodes and basically all the baddies knowing, Yeo-Ri finds her child again. This is after years and two stints in prison! Can you imagine how happy Yeo-Ri must feel?

Now that the secret is out, let the mother’s fury rage and burn all of the Koo’s and Kim’s that stood in the way lying to Yeo-Ri and her family and even ridiculously blaming her for Maya’s accident when it’s their fault.

Unknown Woman 60

Do-Chi comes to Yeo-Ri’s aid while Jiwon tries to snatch the company.

Woman Without a Name Episode 60 RECAP

The poor crying Maya walks around the street sniffing and wiping her tears. When she looks up, she’s in the street and a truck is approaching. She stops frozen in place as it honks.

Then we fast forward back to Yeo-Ri telling Do-Chi to go to the hospital where Maya is. Her phone dies and she pounds on the door before trying to break the lock by slamming the fire extinguisher against it.

Do-Chi calls Haejoo, so, Mooyeol and Haejoo can come to the hospital as well. Then, a nurse comes out of the operation room. She explains that Maya is not critical. However, she lost a lot of blood. She asks for a volunteer from Maya’s parents. Suddenly, it gets awkward because Mooyeol is Type A and Haejoo is AB. The nurse asks for their permission to allow Maya to get a public donor… Do-Chi jumps in to explain that he’s also type O and he will donate.

After Do-Chi leaves, the first thing that Haejoo asks is how they are going to cover up the fact that neither of their blood types matched Maya’s. Mooyeol glares at her asking if that’s the most important thing when Maya just got in an accident. Haejoo’s response? Maya isn’t critical and it is Enok’a fault for losing Maya. Gosh, these two families really deserve each other.

Meanwhile, Jiwon stares at Doyoung in terror. He manages to say “Hong” but does not have the energy to do anything else.

Maya’s surgery ends though the girl stays unconscious. Mooyeol is all fatherly because even evil has a heart for their own blood. Haejoo snipes at his fatherly emotional display and Mooyeol glares at her inhumanity for not feeling anything when a child is lying unconscious before her. Haejoo bites back that Enok should have done a better job after receiving an apartment and store for this. Cue Mooyeol angrily rising to his insufferable mother’s defense as if that’s the important thing right now – deciding whether his mom was or was not wrong for being unable to watch Maya for less than two days before losing her.

Haejoo sighs that she also cares about Maya since she invested time and effort raising Maya. However, her wording is really suspicious as she said she wouldn’t have raised Maya otherwise. So, Mooyeol confronts her asking why Haejoo raised Maya. Haejoo backs off and changes the topic since she cannot come out and say she’s raising Maya to be Gaya’s living donor.

At the same time, Do-Chi meets Enok and Yeolmae outside the room. He asks about Yeo-Ri who would have visited but hasn’t been seen. Yeolmae answers that she hasn’t seen Yeo-Ri since earlier in the storage room. Our reliable and sweet Do-Chi immediately goes running to see if anything happened to Yeo-Ri.

Do-Chi runs down the stairs and hears Yeo-Ri pounding on the door. He checks and confirms that the intercom is broken. Then, he tries running to get someone to open the door. But, only the supervisor can open the door and he’s not answering his phone.

Do-Chi returns to the stairwell and tells Yeo-Ri that he will guard the door all night. They can have a sleepover with a door between them.

Back at home, Jiwon calls the doctor and orders that he puts Doyoung back to sleep until she can achieve her goals. Dr. Kim refuses saying it’s too dangerous to put someone back to sleep after they had been in a coma for one year. Jiwon frowns and threatens to tell everyone how he gave a fake diagnosis that Doyoung was brain dead in exchange for research finding. The good doctor backs down and goes into add the anesthesia into Doyoung’s IV. He declares that this is only one time and he won’t do it again regardless of what she threatens him with.

Maya wakes up and Mooyeol asks why she ran. She explains that she overheard him and Enok saying she was adopted. Mooyeol cries after facing the daughter he threw away in the womb and tells Maya that she’s his one and only daughter. Haejoo comes in and sees that Maya is awake. After checking in on how Maya’s feeling, Haejoo offers to hire a nurse. Mooyeol tells her to go to work as he will stay by Maya’s side.

Haejoo goes to the office and triumphantly tells everyone to upload their designs online before 9AM or be fired. Since Yeo-Ri isn’t in the office, Haejoo even counts down. But, one of the other employees exclaims that Yeo-Ri’s designs were uploaded ten seconds before 9AM.

Haejoo checks and sees the designs online. Wondering how Yeo-Ri could have uploaded the designs from inside the storage room, Haejoo goes to check.

Haejoo finds Yeo-Ri and Do-Chi in the now open storage room. She accuses Yeo-Ri of having someone else draft the designs before uploading them. Yeo-Ri and Do-Chi ask if Haejoo was the one who locked Yeo-Ri in the room. She doesn’t deny it just harping on the designs.

Yeo-Ri doesn’t back down and brings Haejoo inside the room to see the black board on which Yeo-Ri sketched her designs. She had uploaded them with Do-Chi’s cell phone.

Yeo-Ri decides to check on Maya and Do-Chi tells her about the not-matching blood types. They arrive when Enok is already there. Mooyeol is especially prickly about letting Yeo-Ri see Maya.

Do-Chi pulls Mooyeol out and confronts him about the blood types. Mooyeol answers with more lies. He tells them that Haejoo was inconsolable after their daughter died. So, they adopted Maya.

Yeo-Ri frowns and declares that Jiwon doesn’t do anything without being to gain anything from it. There must have been a reason that Jiwon decided to raise Maya as her granddaughter…After all, Jiwon adopted and raised Yeo-Ri to be Haesung’s donor.

Mooyeol rushes off to the company and asks her if she adopted Maya as a donor for Gaya. Jiwon is unrepentant saying that everyone was so depressed after Maya’s death. And, since she brought Maya home, he was able to raise his biological daughter.

Mooyeol tells her that it doesn’t matter what she tries to use as her excuse. This is unforgiveable.

Haejoo comes in just as Mooyeol leaves. They follow him home where he packs up and declares that he’s leaving.

Jiwon asks if he’s willing to give up his chance of entering the management of the company. Mooyeol tells back that he cannot forgive them. He won’t give up his professional role since Jiwon is in a precarious situation with the majority shareholder being Maryun. They need him to complete his projects. He leaves.

Do-Chi and Yeo-Ri arrive. They glare at Jiwon who called an emergency shareholders meeting less than a week after Doyoung’s diagnosis of being brain dead since she needs to take over the company before he wakes up again. Do-Chi grabs Doyoung’s hand and confesses that he loved Doyoung and understands that it would have been difficult for Doyoung to love Do-Chi back in the circumstances … He sighs that he wish he had a chance to tell Doyoung that it’s all fine.

Suddenly, Doyoung opens his eyes.

MY TWO CENTS

Another good episode plot wise. We see that there are cracks in the evil axis and hints of the impending downfall of Jiwon. Yet, it’s not clear which characters will be savaged.

Since Doyoung went through KDRAMA’s equivalent of major character rehabilitation- miracle accident/near death experience, we can assume he will return as a good guy or a neutral guy. Haejoo seems to be sinking into Team Jiwon. And, they are trying to convince us that the Kims are saveable too it’s the comparative actions toward Maya…However, since the Kims are continuing to hide Maya’s relationship from Yeo-Ri in the face of the fact that Maya lives with Yeo-Ri and almost died, I don’t think they are forgiveable. Yeo-Ri literally almost lost her daughter again and she would never have know all because the Kims want money, apartments and jobs from the Koos. Let the Kims, Jiwon and Haejoo always live together without the comfort of the company and drive each other mad.

Unknown Woman 59

Haejoo starts scheming and poor Maya not only gets kicked out of the house but finds out that she’s been adopted.

Woman Without a Name 59

Maya calls Yeo-Ri over and begins to ask why Yeo-Ri has the picture. However, Haejoo arrives before Maya can finish her question. She immediately yells at Yeo-Ri for being close to her kids and orders that Maya and Gaya go upstairs.

Then, Haejoo realizes that Maya is holding a picture of her younger self and asks about it. Maya answers that she found it in Yeo-Ri’s room and was about to ask about it. Haejoo tells Maya not to talk to Yeo-Ri about it. Haejoo lies that childless women usually have pictures of pretty kids around so that they can later have a cute picture like the child. She also tells Maya that Yeo-Ri knows that it’s Maya in the picture and tells the child not to talk to Yeo-Ri about it.

Then Yeo-Ri goes back to her room and finds the photograph missing. She goes to ask Maya about it, Maya tells Yeo-Ri that Haejoo took it.

So, Yeo-Ri goes to confront Haejoo who’s throwing away all of Maya’s childhood pictures. But Haejoo drops Yeo-RI’s photograph before she can make it outside. Yeo-Ri glares at Haejoo demanding to know what she’s doing.

Haejoo snipes back that she doesn’t want any reminders of Yeo-Ri’s child around since she has to explain to her own children that their father is a father of another child. Do-Chi comes home and takes Yeo-Ri’s side just before Jiwon comes home and defends Haejoo .

That night, Jiwon turns off their electricity and pretends to find Doyoung having a seizure because his medical equipment turned off. Everyone wakes up and Jiwon has the doctor called. The doctor examines Doyoung and declares Doyoung brain dead.

Yeo-Ri tells everyone that it cannot be since Doyoung opened his eyes a couple of days ago like Jiwon knows. Jiwon lies that she only told Maya not to repeat it because Maya might get people’s hopes up.

In the morning, Do-Chi decides to ask the doctor separately.

After Do-Chi and Yeo-Ri leave for work, Jiwon tells Maya to pack her immediate things so that she can leave with Enok. Jiwon also has Haejoo take Gaya to school to distract him.

Of course, Enok complains about the evil deed that they are doing to Maya – taking her from her only home while everyone else stays. Yet, she does it because she cares about the money more.

First day of work goes as expected for Yeo-Ri. Some of her teammates recognize her from the competition as well as her time in the legal department. Haejoo attacks first and explains to everyone helpfully that Yeo-Ri had escaped from prison and only pretended to be Seollee. Then Haejoo tasks Yeo-Ri to organizing the storage room in addition to the assignment that everyone else has – developing five new designs per day.

Yeolmae feels a bit of her conscious and brings Yeo-Ri coffee. However, she doesn’t go as far as telling Yeo-Ri about Bom since she and her mom would lose everything that they got from Haejoo’s family.

Then Yeo-Ri gets called by Maya’s school because Maya had a bad allergic reaction to seafood at lunch. Neither Haejoo nor Mooyeol had picked up their phones and Maya had given her grandmother’s number.

Yeo-Ri picks Maya up and finds out that the child has been moved out with Enok which Yeo-Ri finds weird. She also smiles and bonds with Maya more about how both of them have a seafood allergy even though no one else in Maya’s family has that allergy.

Cue another confrontation when Haejoo and Mooyeol finally check their phones and realize that Maya’s school called. They rush over to the Mokdong apartment (Enok’s apartment) and grab Maya from Yeo-Ri after tearing into both for no reason at all.

Then, back at the Koo residence, Doyoung suddenly opens his eyes. He even has enough strength to take off his oxygen mask. The housekeeper calls Jiwon.

Jiwon is rushing out when Haejoo walks into the office. Creepily, Jiwon doesn’t tell Haejoo about her father.

At the same time, Maya overhears Mooyeol and Enok talking. Enok asks Mooyeol why Jiwon lied to everyone and adopted Maya. Mooyeol answers that he has no idea.

Maya gets shocked after she realizes that she’s been adopted. She leaves without telling anyone.

Back at the company, Yeo-Ri continues organizing the storage room. She pauses when she drops a box because she’s tired. She decides to check on Maya.

Of course, many pieces move at the same time. Haejoo comes down to check on Yeo-Ri and then smirks at seeing Yeo-Ri doing the grunt work. She knows that the security camera in front of the storage room is broken and closes the door, locking Yeo-Ri in.

Yeo-Ri then calls Maya but the phone is answered by someone else. He tells Yeo-Ri that the child was in an accident and which hospital to go to.

When Yeo-Ri realizes that she is locked in, she calls Do-Chi to go to Maya.

MY TWO CENTS

I don’t even know what to say about this episode. It made me so furious. First, I can’t believe that Haejoo and Jiwon would literally kick Maya out in addition to treating her differently from Gaya. The fact that everyone in the family lives at home while she is the only one living in Mokdong with Enok has to be traumatizing.

Second, I was so pissed to see how Enok and Yeolmae sell off Yeo-Ri and Maya for an apartment, a store and a job. They know how Mooyeol abandoned Yeo-Ri and Maya. If they had any semblance of a conscious, one of them would have decided betraying the same people twice is too evil. Yet, again the Kim family turns its back on the wrongdoing that they know is happening. Talk about an episode that calls for sugar.

Unknown Woman 58

Jiwon covers up talentless Haejoo stealing Yeo-Ri’s design by giving Yeo-Ri a position on the design team.  Yeo-Ri also gets ready and moves into the house to fight Jiwon/Haejoo/Mooyeol on all fronts.

Woman Without a Name Episode 58

Haejoo stares in horror at the image of Yeo-Ri in front of her. She sputters the question of why Yeo-Ri is there instead of in prison.

Jiwon’s first reaction is to call for security to throw Yeo-Ri out. But, Do-Chi steps in and stops them.

Yeo-Ri continues that the first place winning design is the same as she submitted. Only the name changed. The rose design is her trademark and is in every single one of her designs which many people have already seen. Haejoo didn’t know and copied even that.

Then Maryun shows up. She announces that she’s the second majority shareholder and finds that the owner’s daughter and design department leader would copy others is troublesome, which she will raise at the next shareholders’ meeting.

Jiwon frowns but is backed into a corner. She pauses the awards ceremony to investigate the matter further.

In her office, Jiwon asks Haejoo if she copied. Haejoo denies it. However, she is unable to hold Jiwon’s gaze and bites her lip. So, Jiwon realizes that Haejoo is lying and tells her again to confess, which Haejoo does.

At the same time, Yeo-Ri explains to Do-Chi and Maryun that Haejoo came to give a seminar on design in the prison. Haejoo saw Yeo-Ri’s portfolio at that visit and must have copied… she wonders how no one noticed the same design submission and assumes that Haejoo must have had Yeo-Ri’s submission trashed.

Suddenly, Do-Chi remembers seeing Haejoo throw away a submission binder outside Mooyeol’s office and tells the others about it.

The group decides to go confront Haejoo about it. They walk out right into Mooyeol who has been eavesdropping…He rubs his head and runs away like the coward that he is.

Mooyeol goes to the security office and demands to see the feed from near his office. The employee refuses saying that there was an order not to…from Do-Chi who shows up.

At the same time, Yeo-Ri and Maryun go to Jiwon’s office and demand that Haejoo confess. Jiwon demands evidence. Do-Chi arrives and declares that he has the security feed where Haejoo is throwing away a contestant’s portfolio in front of Mooyeol’s office. Maryun also declares that as a majority stakeholder, she will raise it for the shareholders.

Mooyeol jumps in to cover for Haejoo. He announces that Haejoo knew nothing. He told Haejoo to toss Yeo-Ri’s portfolio.

Jiwon has everyone leave except for Yeo-Ri. Jiwon then tells her that if this becomes public, someone needs to take responsibility. Since Do-Chi is the Vice President in charge of the design and marketing department, he will need to step down.

Yeo-Ri smirks that even now Jiwon first turns to threats. Jiwon asks what Yeo-Ri wants. Yeo-Ri answers that she will take this as a confession. So, all she wants now is to be hired as the competition promised the winners. Jiwon agrees to take Yeo-Ri on as an intern for three months.

Time for Yeo-Ri and Do-Chi to enter the house. Only the kids are there and they happily greet Yeo-Ri.

Yeo-Ri goes in to greet Doyoung as well. She tells him that it’s been a while but she’s back in the house. She also tells him to get back up soon.

Then Maya enters and warns Yeo-Ri to leave the room. Jiwon doesn’t like anyone being in the room other than herself. Maya also tells Yeo-Ri about how Maya saw Doyoung open his eyes but Jiwon told her not to tell anyone.

That afternoon, the rest of the family arrive at home. They are shocked when Yeo-Ri walks out. Jiwon even states that an unmarried couple shouldn’t live together. So, Do-Chi explains that they registered the marriage the day before. They are legally a couple. He also thanks them for ruining the wedding, which helped them ascertain their true feelings.

Jiwon decides to give in since she has nothing she can say.

That night, Yeo-Ri and Do-Chi have a romantic moment despite all the tension when Do-Chi helps Yeo-Ri clean up after dinner. Awww what a sweetie, the guy definitely learned the right values.

Yeo-Ri is thankful and Do-Chi kisses Yeo-Ri on the forehead. Haejoo walks in on this and glares to see the scene. She snaps at them to be careful about how they act since they aren’t the only ones living in that house.

Haejoo huffs on upstairs. Mooyeol massages her shoulders telling her to rely on him. He will cover for her useless self because he loves her. Puke?

Mooyeol then even washes Haejoo’s foot. That night Haejoo invites Mooyeol back into the bed.

The next day, Jiwon gives Enok the deed to the apartment as well as the rental contract for a herbal medicine store. The condition for keeping the apartment and the new store is that Enok takes Maya to live there away from Yeo-Ri and keep the secret. Our value-less Enok accepts the money in exchange for betraying her granddaughter.

Enok does know that it’s wrong to keep this secret from Maya and Yeo-Ri. So, she tells Yeolmae.

At that moment, Haejoo meets with Yeolmae. Haejoo offers Yeolmae a position with the design team in exchange for her keeping Bom’s secret. Will Yeolmae do what’s right for Bom and Yeo-Ri? Or will she choose money/job?

Meanwhile, Maya and Gaya come home from school. Yeo-Ri offers to make them a snack and they happily go explore Yeo-Ri’s room. As soon as they go inside, Gaya and Maya spot the picture of Bom that Yeo-Ri has taped to her mirror.

Maya is surprised to see herself. Gaya also agrees that it’s Maya. So, Maya comes out to ask Yeo-Ri why Yeo-Ri had a picture of baby Maya.

MY TWO CENTS

One thing about dailies that can wear someone out is if there are too many antagonists. Unknown Woman does a good job keeping us hooked but sometimes I feel so tired after watching it because of all of the two dimensional idiot and evil characters. For example, we know Haejoo and Jiwon are pretty much selfish, evil people who do not care about boundaries such as engagement or the bond between a mother and a baby. Then, we have Enok and her family. Enok’s family is so stupid, lazy and greedy that they even make Haejoo and Jiwon look human with standards.

Sometimes like after an episode like this one, I can’t help feeling tired. I know each of them will get their comeuppance but another 50 episodes for that comeuppance is a long time. And, in this episode, Enok and Yeolmae go from being stupid, lazy parasitic inlaws that live off of the daughter-in-law’s family money to being really evil like Haejoo/Jiwon by crossing one of the lines of basic human decency again. They know that Bom is Yeo-Ri’s lost daughter. In a situation like that, they owe an obligation to tell the truth for Maya’s sake. Yet, they are easily bought off with money. Really makes one exhausted seeing people who value money and their image more than any other real values… Here’s to hoping Yeo-Ri finds out soon and this family gets what they deserve.

Unknown Woman 57

Doyoung sleeps while Jiwon takes over the company and Haejoo steals Yeo-Ri’s design.

Woman Without a Name Episode 57 RECAP

Life is normal in the prison now that Yeo-Ri is friends with Prisoner 104. The whole group plays around wearing Yeo-Ri’s designed clothes and dancing in their cell.

However, the Koo family would not be the Koo family if they left Yeo-Ri alone. Haejoo shows up as the special outsider instructor for the fashion seminar smirking the whole time as she makes eye contact with Yeo-Ri as a prisoner.

After the lecture, Yeo-Ri tries to leave with the other prisoners but Haejoo stops her in the hallway. Haejoo smirks that the outfit looks good on her, which causes Yeo-Ri to rise up to the hair and tell Haejoo that Yeo-Ri doesn’t envy Haejoo one bit. Haejoo’s father is comatose, mother took over the father’s job and is unclear if she is the one who made Doyoung like that and her husband is always willing to betray another for his own gain.

Haejoo narrows her eyes. Then she grabs Yeo-Ri’s sketch book declaring that even if Yeo-Ri learns fashion, Haejoo will make sure Yeo-Ri never gets hired. Haejoo flips through the pages and pauses when she sees a pretty floral print.

Later the kids come home and whine to Enok that they want to see their grandfather. So, Enok lets them see Doyoung since no one else is home. The kids announce their presence and Gaya quickly grows bored. He leaves and Maya pauses a few minutes more to promise Doyoung that she will visit when no one else is around so he’s not lonely.

Doyoung opens his eyes and looks directly at Maya. Maya gasps and asks if he is conscious.

At the same time Jiwon comes home and Enok freaks out. Even though Jiwon answers a call saying she will change her clothes and leave, Enok starts making bird noises suspiciously.

So, Maya hides and Jiwon goes to check in the study. Jiwon sees Doyoung’s eyes are open and she, too, asks if he is now awake. But, he closes his eyes and Jiwon sighs in relief.

Maya hiccuping in fear lets Jiwon know that she’s there. Jiwon pulls Maya up from behind the bed and warns her not to tell anyone since comatose people can from time to time open their eyes.

Meanwhile, Do-Chi visits Yeo-Ri with another rose. She smiles and tells him that he doesn’t have to keep bringing her flowers. His response? His wish is to have her only see beautiful and nice things every day. Awwwww. Be still my beating heart >_<.

Yeo-Ri tells Do-Chi that she really likes design and that she will enter the WID Group contest. Do-Chi tells her to do her best and he will help in any way he can other than just picking her as a winner.

That night Jiwon has a nightmare that Doyoung wakes up.

So, in the morning she asks Haejoo if Jiwon should take Doyoung’s power of attorney. Haejoo frowns that it feels like they are acting as if her father will never wake up. Since, making Jiwon Doyoung’s legal guardian with power of attorney in all affairs requires Haejoo’s consent, Jiwon pretends that it’s not a big deal and gives Haejoo time to think.

She also dangles a carrot by inviting Haejoo to a female CEO luncheon.

After the lunch, Haejoo is walking to the bathroom when she sees the two other women CEO chatting in the lobby. They comment to each other that Jiwon is really heartless to be so happy while her husband is comatose and blame it on her orphan background.

Haejoo glares at them and waits for the women to go to the bathroom. Then she dumps the cleaning water over the stall yelling that she should be careful about what she says.

Haejoo then runs to give Jiwon a hug. Haejoo sighs that she had no idea her mother was an orphan. She promises to do everything in her power to make sure no one else ever ridicules her mother and even promises to sign the power of attorney/estate administrator for Doyoung.

Meanwhile, the prison guard announces that Yeo-Ri is being let out on parole!

That night, Haejoo decides to enter the design competition to show that she has talent. However, no matter how much she draws, she isn’t satisfied with her work. She suddenly remembers Yeo-Ri’s design and begins to draw assuming that Yeo-Ri will never find out.

Mooyeol sees the drawing in the morning while Haejoo is still asleep. Then he recognizes it when it lands on his desk for the blind judgment. However, when he opens the next portfolio, he sees the same dress.

Haejoo walks in at that moment and Mooyeol smiles that she must have removed herself as a judge because she wanted to join the competition. Haejoo smiles broadly even though it’s not her design. Then Mooyeol asks if she submitted two applications showing her Yeo-Ri’s design.

Coincidentally, Mooyeol gets a call and steps out. So, Haejoo grabs the other binder and tosses it in the hallway. But, Do-Chi sees it.

Time for Yeo-Ri to come out on parole! Her parents are waiting outside and Do-Chi also shows up within a few minutes. He brings her a bouquet of followers to top off all the flowers he brought while she was in prison. Then he takes her to the nearest city register to register their marriage.

Back at home, Yeo-Ri is called over by Maryun because Maryun assumes that Yeo-Ri won after seeing the design. Yeo-Ri looks and frowns because the sketch is slightly different…She calls Do-Chi who tells her that Haejoo won.

Yeo-Ri realizes that Haejoo stole her design and goes to the awards ceremony. They announce that Haejoo won the competition, which was voted on by the public. Yeo-Ri yells out that they need to stop because Haejoo copied and stole her design.

MY TWO CENTS

Way to end on a cliffhanger. I am actually anxious about how this ends. How can Yeo-Ri prove that Haejoo stole Yeo-Ri’s design when Yeo-Ri was in prison? Everything that Yeo-Ri has is circumstantial other than the company probably has an internal copy of both designs being submitted on the same day…

Props to the writers and the drama staff for managing to pull off a subarc that feels original and very engaging. The conflict was arranged so organically that I wasn’t even annoyed at how Yeo-Ri went from lawyer to designer. While her sudden ability for the law felt forced, since Yeo-Ri had been an art student, her affinity for design seems natural.

Now the question is how will Yeo-Ri and Company make the Koo’s and the Kim’s pay for all their sins?

Unknown Woman 56

One of my favorite episodes. Do-Chi shows us that a “married” Korean man can still act in a way to make people swoon!

Woman Without A Name Episode 56 RECAP

The friend prisoner (Sonyeo Wang) rolls around on the ground crying that it hurts so much.  She calls for the guard and states that she wants to file a claim…

At the same time, Haejoo brings Gaya to check in on Jiwon.  Gaya happily congratulates Jiwon for becoming number 1 of the company. But, Haejoo interrupts to say that Jiwon is only number 1 until grandpa wakes up. Jiwon frowns.

Jjang-Gu shows Do-Chi the whistle-blower’s video.  Do-Chi notices that the person preparing the chicken has  tattoo, which neither Maryun or Kidong has.

As for the two – Maryun and Kidong decide that they will liquidate their assets and sell the land to pay back the investors.  However, they note that they cannot sell WID Group stocks since that would take them down from being the top 2 shareholder and Yeo-Ri and Do-Chi won’t have anything to fall back on.

Do-Chi comes over and shows them the video.  They realize that it was the new hire but he does not pick up.

The new hire Kichul is meeting with Sonyeo who is his wife. They decide that they will do what they need to get money for their kids.

Then Kichul leaves.  However, he runs into Do-Chi outside the prison and asks for an autograph because his wife is a huge fan.  Do-Chi agrees and makes out the autograph to the wife “Sonyeo Wang”.  As he hands back the pad, he notices the tattoo and grabs Kichul’s arm.

Do-Chi asks if Kichul worked at the chicken restaurant that has been on the news lately. Kichul denies it and runs to a cab…Do-Chi returns back to Maryun’s house since Yeo-Ri is in solitary confinement.  He explains how he met Kichul and Do-Chi believes that Kichul’s wife is in prison – Wang Sonyeo.

Maryun recognizes the name.

At the same time, Prisoner 104 (cell leader) comes in to sneer at Yeo-Ri who is able to eat during all this. Yeo-Ri answers that there is probably a reason for all this.  Then the guard comes in to tell Yeo-Ri that Sonyeo decided to file a claim … If Sonyeo wins, Yeo-Ri’s time will be increased.

The next day, Mooyeol reports to Jiwon that Maryun put her land for sale at a cheaper price. Jiwon orders that Mooyeol buys everything that Maryun puts up for sale.

Yeo-Ri goes to her investigation and asks Sonyeo to just say that this is all a misunderstanding.  Yeo-Ri insists that she did nothing and asks Sonyeo if Sonyeo really believes that the person behind all this would protect Soneyo. Sonyeo refuses to admit that the whole thing is a sham. Yeo-Ri then tells the investigator that there was a witness – Prisoner 104.  Except, she’s outside the prison right now.

Afterwards, Yeo-Ri calls Maryun and hears about the chicken shop incident.  She explains how Sonyeo is acting weirdly inside prison as well.

Then Yeo-Ri asks Prisoner 104 for help.  Prisoner 104 refuses.

Yeo-Ri asks why Prisoner 104 hates her.  Prisonder 104 answers that Yeo-Ri makes her angry reminding her of how she was betrayed by her friend…who was also a lawyer. The lawyer had thrown Prisoner 104 under the bus to save her own daughter from a battery case.

Yeo-Ri tells Prisoner 104 that she should not give up.  No one has the right to ruin another person’s life just to protect their own interests.  Yeo-Ri explains that she was also betrayed but she’s not giving up.

Later Prisoner 104 chances on Sonyeo’s call with Jiwon.  They go to the nurse station where Sonyeo asks Prisoner 104 to keep this a secret.  She even offers to share half of the money that she will receive.

Then Sonyeo gets called away as she has a visitor – Maryun.  Maryun innocently asks about when Sonyeo will get out soon and what she will do when she’s free.  Sonyeo explains that she got back together with her husband and chanced upon some money. So Maryun asks for Sonyeo’s husband’s contact information and offers to help invest Sonyeo’s money.  Sonyeo happily gives it to her.

So, Do-Chi calls Kichul out to meet about an investment opportunity.  When Kichul arrives, it’s Kidong waiting for him.  Kichul headbonks him and then runs out. He rips over Do-Chi’s foot.  Then Kidong and Do-Chi confront Kichul.

Ki-Chil insists that he does not know the person who ordered him to do everything.  He was only given money.  Do-Chi pulls out a photograph of Mooyeol and Kichul confesses that it’s him.

Next, it’s time for another investigation session. Prisoner 104 gets called in to testify.  Prisoner 104 announces that Sonyeo did everything herself and glares at Sonyeo.  Prisoner 104 snaps that the thing she hates the most is betraying your friend for money.

Then Maryun comes in with Kichul who tells Sonyeo to give it up. Maryun declares that they are going to sue for defamation.  Suddenly, Sonyeo and Kichul are begging Yeo-Ri for forgiveness. Yeo-Ri tears up and states that she’s not going to press charges against Sonyeo.  However, there is a condition that Kichul makes it clear to the public that his whistle-blowing was all fake.

The news outlets publish Kichul’s confession that the original report was fake. Then, Do-Chi storms into Mooyeol’s office and accuses him of masterminding the plan. Mooyeol denies it…until Kichul walks in.

Do-Chi smirks and tells Mooyeol that they will turn him over to the police unless Mooyeol is willing to void the sale contracts for Maryun’s land.

Jiwon is told the news and she calls Mooyeol in…with Maryun and Do-Chi following. Maryun slams down the deed of sales and demands that they void the contract. If not, Maryun will turn Jiwon over to the police as well. Jiwon rips up the contract in anger. Do-Chi also warns Jiwon that if Jiwon does anything else against Yeo-Ri or her family again, he won’t let it slide.

Do-Chi and Maryun leave to high-five in the hallway.

Time passes because we have 2 years of Yeo-Ri’s sentence…Yeo-Ri and Prisoner 104 become fast friends as Yeo-Ri develops her design skills.

A year jump.  WID Group is in trouble as the share prices are tumbling. Jiwon yells at Haejoo for being unable to bring WID Fashion up to par and Do-Chi tells Haejoo to lower the job applicant requirements and focus on talent instead of a resume’s application.

Haejoo has her team upload the next competition/search for WID Fashion…and even sends one of the posters to the prison?

MY TWO CENTS

This may just be DRAMAFEED’s rant about cultural issues but I was so happy to see Do-Chi actively helping Yeo-Ri and Maryun.  Usually, when the in-laws family is bat-shiz crazy, the male lead goes through this useless period of angst where he cannot make a decision. Then, he apologize to his wife because he knows that his family is bat shiz crazy and has hurt her (stress, attacks, etc) but asks THE GIRL to understand and accept the bat shiz crazy because – FAMILY.  Usually, in dramas, the girls then try their best to accept this whole new level crazy that not only inconveniences them but attacks their values and perspective on life.  I’m not even limiting this to makjang dailies as you see this in the regular 2 drama a week shows and weekend family dramas.  This is the basic tenet of most of Korea’s mother-in-law/daughter-in-law issues, which the women of Korea eat up since most of them have had to deal with it in one shape or form.

However, this episode was just lovely because Do-Chi breaks free of such useless social constructs.  He knows that Jiwon is orchestrating all of this and as a result Maryun had to sell her land at a loss. Even know he knows that helping Maryun would put his family at risk, he does and then even tells his family to their face in front of Maryun not to mess with Yeo-Ri or Maryun. Because, finally, some people realize that maybe the fact that family dramas in the United States does not usually revolve around the horrible mom-sters-in-laws is because the social expectation is that the in-law family actually pretends to be normal and decent?  When that line is crossed, society expects the husband not to falter and question whether he should do what’s right v. what is necessary to save his family’s image from the embarrassment that they would have to deal with if the public knew how his family acted and they confessed to their actions.

Just putting it out there…But maybe the fact that so many Korean men complain that their wives only focus on the children and not them could indicate that these women ended up turning away from their husbands when such situations occurred and the men did not back up or protect protect their wives? Women are strong but you can’t blame them if the person who one prioritized above everything else never returned the favor… Hence, the women turned to other outlets for their emotional anchors – children? Just food for thought as a Korean America, it seems that there are a lot more affectionate American couples while Korean couples focus on the children.

However, I end this random thought train on an optimistic note.  With the change in demographics leading to more women being educated and having careers, there has been a huge shift in Korean culture. From what I am aware, it is embarrassing to be a “makjang mother-in-law” these days because that means that your family did not include the values of equality and that the mother-in-law likely did not raise a smart/professional daughter.  After all, mothers and fathers who raise successful women are less likely to treat a new member to their family like an indentured servant if think on their own daughters.  Hence, this shift is shown on television with more daughter-in-law characters with a backbone such as the current weekly Father Is Strange, etc.  I have read and heard that the reaction to the smart lawyer daughter-in-law who tells her crazy ignorant and selfish mother-in-law to back off or that she’s wrong or crass when the woman is, has been quite positive.

I truly believe that as more women of our generation become mothers and raise our daughters knowing that they do have a right to be treated politely by everyone, this horrid lingering societal bacteria/bug? will end up being the outlier in the next century. 😉

Unknown Woman 53-55

Halfway through the series and we go back to square one.  Jiwon strikes and Yeo-Ri is sent to prison.

The Woman Without a Name Episodes 53-55 RECAP

Jiwon sports a new haircut and perm as she fumes over the incomplete video.  Then she gets the bad news that Do-Chi’s first project has been a smashing success.  Jiwon surprisingly laughs and invites Mooyeol and Haejoo to join her in congratulating Do-Chi and Yeo-Ri.
Jiwon hands over a plotted flower.  She adds that he will be moved into management and will accept Yeo-Ri into the family fold.
Her behavior makes Yeo-Ri especially nervous. So, it’s good when she hears from Kidong that they found someone in Japan who may be able to restore the full video feed.
Do-Chi also tells Maryun and Kidong that they will get married right away.  They can move into Jiwon’s house so they don’t need another place to live.  The wedding will also be a quiet affair.
Maryun frowns and storms into her room.  Her voice cracks as she tells Yeo-Ri that she does not feel good about Yeo-Ri going into Jiwon’s house since that family is crazy.  Yeo-Ri promises to move out when they find Bom.
The next day, Do-Chi finds out that he’s been placed as a Vice President. Haejoo has been moved to Senior Manager and Team Leader.  Do-Chi thanks Jiwon and announces that he’s getting married that weekend.
Mooyeol follows Do-Chi into his office and sneers that Do-Chi only got the position because of his family as if Mooyeol didn’t get his position by marrying Haejoo.  Mooyeol tells Do-Chi to move out when he marries Yeo-Ri.  But Do-Chi smile and tells Mooyeol to leave instead since that his house.

Jiwon also calls Yeo-Ri into her office.  She explains that she wants to do something as the future sister-in-law such as send the two on a honeymoon.  Because, society expects that a sister-in-law at least pretends to be polite and not a complete crazy selfish witch 24/7.  In return, she wants to see the full video feed.
Yeo-Ri declines the honeymoon present and remains firm that she will not hand over the video to Jiwon.
Random scene where Enok finds out that Yeo-Ri is getting married. After everything she did including betraying Yeo-Ri and Bom for the richer daughter-in-law, Enok tears up and says she’s sending Yeo-Ri off when she thought that Yeo-Ri would be her daughter-in-law.  Yeo-Ri hands her an account book telling Enok to get a residence to live with Yeolmae.
Enok pretends to decline it.  But in the end accepts it. Ugh.  Her excuse? She will protect Maya.
True to her words, Enok actually does something for someone else other than herself and money.  She barges in with luggage to the Koo residence.  She also declares that she is going to live there from now on.  If Haejoo kicks Enok out, she will tell Yeo-Ri the truth.
Enok goes up and finds Maya sniffing.  Maya cries that she is being sent to study abroad. Enok confronts Haejoo who just warns Enok to keep her mouth shut or Mooyeol will end up hating her.

On the side, Do-Chi goes ring shopping with Yeo-Ri.  He lets her pick out the rings and encourages her to pick out nice ones since he knows that women have a romantic ideal about wedding rings.

Then, Enok sneaks Maya out to have some time with Yeo-Ri before Maya gets sent off to study abroad.  They have cotton candy at the park, Yeo-Ri teaches her to ride a bike and Yeo-Ri even draws a portrait of Maya.

Yeo-Ri brings Maya back late because of traffic.  So, Haejoo sees Yeo-Ri dropping Maya off. Immediately, Haejoo hits Maya and yells at her for meeting Yeo-Ri even though Haejoo and Jiwon had told her not to. Yeo-Ri intervenes and tells Haejoo to stop hitting the child.
Haejoo glares that this is all happening because of Yeo-Ri.  She tells Enok to take Maya inside. Enok declares that Haejoo will be punished by the heavens for what she’s doing but does not tell the truth because that means Enok and Mooyeol would be kicked out on the streets penniless. After all, an act like that would be decent and selfless and how could we expect that from Mooyeol’s family?

Yeo-Ri goes home where her parents are happy about the fact that the people in Japan said they might be able to restore the video by tomorrow…the same day as Yeo-Ri’s wedding.
Yeo-Ri shows the rings and Maryun frowns that the rings are so simple and plain.  She immediately states that they should go get new rings not realizing Yeo-Ri picked out simple ones since this marriage is of convenience and not love.
Yeo-Ri just smiles and pulls out another box of more beautiful and elaborate rings with diamonds.  She explains that the rings are for Maryun and Kidong. She remembered how Maryun said she was too embarassed to exchange rings when Maryun married Kidong.  These rings are for them so that they can live happily and healthily for a long time like the diamonds.

The next day, following tradition, Do-Chi and Yeo-Ri go pay their respects and greet Yeo-Ri’s parents.  Then, they receive a package from Jiwon – it’s white flowers symbolizing a funeral.

At the wedding, Mooyeol’s manager comes over to film Yeo-Ri’s pre-wedding message.  But, the he gets called out by a vendor and leaves the camera running.
Cue wedding! Yeo-Ri and Do-Chi walk down the aisle together.  They pause when they see Jiwon, Mooyeol and Haejoo.  But, they continue walking up…The rings are exchanged.  The pastor announces that they are husband and wife under God.

Then, the police barge in.  They announce that they heard that there was an escaped convict and accuse her of being Yeo-Ri Son who escaped from prison.  Yeo-Ri looks back at Jiwon who smiles.
Jiwon stands up and yells that the bride is the escaped convict Yeo-Ri Son.  Yeo-Ri is dragged out by the police.  They refuse any leniency even when Do-Chi asks for a few private moments as a newly married couple.  Maryun and the family also trail behind crying.

Maryun is ready to kill Jiwon for all of her treachery.  But, the police arrive again. They tell Maryun that they are arresting Maryun and Kidong for aiding and abetting an escaped convict.

The Koo family goes home triumphantly.  And, Jiwon announces that Maya is not going to study abroad.  She also pulls Haejoo on the side and tells Haejoo to deal with Maya for Gaya.  Because keeping a child around in an unloving house in case her bone marrow is needed is normal for this family.

Meanwhile, the Yeo-Ri family deals with the police barking at them. But, Do-Chi comes to the rescue. He remembers how Yeo-Ri asked him to file the lawsuit against Yeo-Ri if she gets caught.  He files it and goes to the station with a filed copy as proof.
Maryun and Kidong come out to hug Yeo-Ri. She snaps them away and tells them to leave.  She even sneers that she had been exhausted pretending to be their long lost daughter.  Do-Chi pulls Maryun and Kidong out.

Maryun goes to the Koo residence with a trash can and Kidong brings a fire extinguisher! HAHAHAHAA! After Maryun empties the trash, Kidong fires the extinguisher at them. OMG, I love this! For once in life, those who live a life of lies get a tiny taste of their own medicine. Best scene ever. Only small blip is that Enok was not there.
Haejoo yells back that they will call the police for trespassing but Do-Chi comes in.  He warns Jiwon that he cannot let this go.  They are repairing the video right now and they will give Jiwon what’s coming for her

Do-Chi then goes to visit Yeo-Ri.  He’s still wearing his ring.  Yeo-Ri sees that and tells Do-Chi that he needs to act carefully since he just got placed into management.  She will go back to jail and serve the rest of her time.  When she comes out, Jiwon will no longer have anything on her.
Yeo-Ri also tells Do-Chi that their partnership is over. He should forget her now and become stronger to protect WID Group.  She takes off her ring and apologizes.
However, when Do-Chi goes to work, he’s still wearing the ring.  Jiwon tasks Mooyeol to tell all of the directors about Do-Chi’s relationship with an escaped convict.  Yet, he’s supposed to stop all of the news articles as they can hurt the company’s image.

We go back to square one in the fight.  Jiwon goes to sneer at Yeo-Ri in jail. Yeo-Ri yells at Jiwon that one day she will get out and return all that she received. Jiwon just laughs that Yeo-Ri can do nothing now that she cannot even be a lawyer.

Then, Jiwon meets a man at a cafe.  He’s the one who’s been fixing the video feed. The man hands over a USB and takes an envelope of money.  Jiwon drops the USB in a cup of water.

Enok does her stupid evil thinking out loud thing.  The only difference between Enok and Jiwon being that Jiwon is smart enough to plan revenge. Enok decides that it’s better for Maya to live with a rich family than with a convicted felon as a mother.

Then, Maya and Gaya come up because they are hungry.  Maya ends up tripping and Enok sees the band-aid covering the place where the birthmark was removed. She goes to pick up a piece of Maya’s hair from her bed and drops it in a plastic back.  She then calls Yeolmae to help her write an anonymous letter at a computer lab.

Meanwhile, Do-Chi comes home and finds his stuff from the wedding ceremony, which includes the video camera that Jjang-Gu had used.  Yeo-Ri had actually recorded a message for him.  She had asked if he remembers how they first met…She had been so thankful that he would help her and not ignore her.  She also explained that while Seollee would use Do-Chi, she will regain her original name and love him as Yeo-Ri.

Do-Chi then rushes to the police station.  He tells Yeo-Ri that they agreed that there would be no lies between them. He will never let her go again.
Yeo-Ri’s sentencing occurs. The fact that she had lost a child and lived a quiet life in prison helps.  The judge announces that she only gets two years in prison.

Yeo-Ri ends up going to the same cell as she had originally been in.  She gets Enok’s letter with Bom’s hair…Then the cell leader returns.  She demands to see Yeo-Ri’s letter but Yeo-Ri refuses.  The cell leader attacks and grabs the envelope.
The cell leader orders that Yeo-Ri kneels and begs for it.  Yeo-Ri kneels and begs for the envelope as it’s the only evidence that she has about her daughter being alive.  The cell leader tosses it to Yeo-Ri.
On the side, Maryun and Kidong brood about Yeo-Ri.  Kidong suggests that when Yeo-Ri comes out of prison this time, they give her back her real name.  Maryun cries that it sounds good.

Then, it’s time for visitors.  Maryun, Kidong and Do-Chi all show up.  Yeo-Ri shows them the letter.  Kidong agrees to take the piece of hair and get it DNA tested.

Then, Kidong and Maryun go out to give Yeo-Ri some time.  Do-Chi sits down and pulls out a rose. OMG >_< He explains that he’s also matching her schedule until she comes out.  While, I hate Candy’s – what about Do-Chi’s willingness to be with Yeo-Ri even after she loses everything and cannot help her just gets me? Awwwwwwww…
Do-Chi then goes back to work.  He tells Haejoo that her proposal to create a new line by having a competition open to the public is good but the requirements for participants are too high.  They should allow anyone to participate regardless of certification or education.

On the side, Maryun and Kidong meet with an older man who wants a job. He explains that he has been recently fired and has a wife and kids…

Next thing we know, the DNA test comes out positive! It’s a match – BOM!
Maryun immediately calls Yeo-Ri to let her know. Yeo-Ri tells her friend from before and the cell leader watches from the shadows.

Someone (cell leader? friend? employee?) calls and reports the news to Jiwon.  She decides that it has to be either Mooyeol or Enok.  Jiwon and Haejoo go to confront Mooyeol in his office.  He denies it since they are his life line saying that he wants to get revenge on Yeo-Ri more than anyone else.

So, Jiwon and Haejoo go straight home.  Because CEOs and Senior Managers don’t need to run the company.  They find Enok in the kitchen and begin yelling at her for betraying them.  Enok immediately denies it.  She pretends to know nothing and even states that they can go have a confrontation with Yeo-Ri.  Jiwon backs down at this suggestion.

On the side, the man that Maryun and Kidong hired pretends to work hard.  He lets them go home first and then starts pouring some kind of powder while recording it…
The next thing we know, there’s an anonymous whistle blower that the chicken restaurant uses expired shrimp.  This is broadcast on television and the investors who back the chicken restaurant charge in.

Later that day, Yeo-Ri is walking back to her cell when the cell leader snaps at her again.  Yeo-Ri refuses to rise to the bait explaining that all she wants to do is live quietly and leave soon to find her child.  The other girl raises her hand to slap Yeo-Ri.  But, Yeo-Ri doesn’t back down and tells her to slap since Yeo-Ri won’t do anything.
The other girl lowers her hand and asks Yeo-Ri to be her minion.  Yeo-Ri refuses stating that she hates people who take advantage of those weaker than them.

When Yeo-Ri goes back into her cell, her friend starts going crazy.  The friend slams her own head into the table and the wall.  Then, she also uses Yeo-Ri’s hands to grab at her hair even after her face is all bloodied up.  The friend apologizes that she is so sorry but she has to do what she can for her child as well.
The guards come in and send Yeo-Ri to isolation.
MY TWO CENTS

I was worried that the series might start dragging at one point but the series managed to resolve the tension in a way that just leaves it simmering for next time.  By taking the USB out of the picture, Jiwon clearly has the upper hand.  However, there is still hope for viewers since the USB plot device can always be brought back to life.  Additionally, Do-Chi is still in the company and available to take it over…Finally, we don’t know if Doyoung will ever wake up and suddenly side with Do-Chi and Yeo-Ri against the scary monster that Jiwon is.

One final note is that I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Kidong/Maryun fire extinguisher scene.  The way I see it is if the evil in-laws get to be all makjang in your face gangster liars all the time, then the good guys should get to use the same makjang tactics here and there.  It felt SO good watching that scene, I laughed like crazy 🙂

Here’s to an enjoyable two-episodes run that brings us back to Yeo-Ri v. Jiwon.  Game on.
