Bride of a Water God – Shin Sekyung Feminine Business Casual

What I love about Korean society is that it generally believes that business professional does not have to lose colors or femininity.  After all, why must a look be boring or “not-feminine” to be serious? Is not that inherent thought anti-feminist?

Shin Sekyung’s coordinators did an amazing job in styling her for Episode 3 of Bride of a Water God’s professional school reunion scene.  She’s meeting with other psychiatrists and needs to be professional but that does not mean she has to fall back on a boring suit.  Rather, she floats into the scenes with a nice blouse and pencil skirt.

The stylish part of it? Sekyung trades the traditional blouse for a beautiful lace blouse and swaps out the usual colors of black, navy, and gray for a bright and summery green.  These two changes keep the outfit business casual but gives it a special stylistic edge that just makes the outfit pretty.

Now for a green skirt. Surprisingly enough, it was hard to find a high waist green pencil skirt.  But, I saw this one in a nice jungle green that I would totally wear.

Elegant Lavender Coat for Women – Choi Myoung-Gil in Sweet Home, Sweet Honey

As some of you know, Choi Myoung-Gil plays a workaholic professional mother in Sweet Home, Sweet Honey, which has quickly fought its way into the top third ranking for Korean viewers. Her character is as fashionable as she is successful and I liked her stylist’s choice of coats.  First, it fits in with Pantone’s Color of the year – Serenity. Secondly, by going for a little more lavendar than outright serenity, the outfit works better with Myoung-Gil’s Asian complexion.   Third and finally, I love the fact that she’s wearing the coat like a boss even though it’s a lighter color, and most women tend toward the usual/safer colors of brown, blue, black, or gray.

[WGM] We Got Married Episode 253 – Kim So Eun’s Travel Date in Plaid

In Episode 253 of We Got Married, which aired on January 3, 2015, Kim So Eun traveled in Turkey with her “husband” on their “honeymoon.”  This event turned into an extended tour of Turkey’s delicious foods, but what I also appreciated was her choice of travel outfits/weekend date outfits.  It was clear that she or her style coordinator decided on a theme of plaid winter coats.  In the first part, she wears a navy plaid coat as they travel and have dinner in a restaurant overlooking a beautiful view.  The next day, she dons a red plaid coat and they continue their “muk-bang” journey [DRAMAFEED – literally translated to be “eating room,” which nods to the new Korean trend of watching people eat online… ^^]

Just on a side note, I didn’t realize until I tried looking for similar style coats that it was so hard to find a decent and not cheap looking plaid coat of good quality.  I never realized it before, but I also tend toward only wearing solid colors.  I think it’s because of the general view that you can always wear solid color coats over again, but for some reason plaids are easier to spot.  However, that line of thinking seems off, since it’s not like your colleagues or friends won’t notice that you’re wearing the same black or brown coat again.  I’d be open to anyone’s thoughts on this.

Back to the main point – WHAT KIM SO EUN WORE:

1. Shaggy and Distorted Navy Plaid Coat – sponsored by Siero.  According to their facebook, Siero provides “lifestyle contemporary clothes.”  For more info, check out their FB page HERE; it includes the times that other celebrities including Im Shi Wan of Misaeng wore their clothes. From what I can see, the original coat can be found on CJ Mall’s website here, which is part of Hyundai.

Cierro Navy

2.  Luckychouette – Red Plaid Coat – sponsored by Luckychouette. According to their website, they target the global customer with a hybrid smart/casual style that incorporates humor and graphics. Here’s their FB page.  Sorry, I couldn’t find it on their website… I think this is an in-stores only thing.  This was an interesting piece because the coat is designed to be obviously feminine and cute.  I think So Eun pulled it off great with the black hat to emphasize the hippy cute look, but it’s difficult to pull off in societies that are less “into” the cute look.  When looking for similar alternative, I took a lot more artistic liberty.

THE DREAM – Martin Grant – Simple but the details really shine in this one…the more you see it, the more it looks lovely and well crafted…Something about the lines and the solids… <3_<3  More info found here.

FYI – Martin Grant is an up-and-coming fashion designer, originally from Australia.  He  is known for “pure lines, which are both simple and spectacular” as his styles have an element of modern art and a resemblance to sculptures.

THE SPLURGETheory  – The “shaggy and distorted” blending of the colors reminds me of So Eun’s cat and differentiates this one from the run of the mill plaid coats.  Since the plaid kind of blends into one another, I think it gives less of the refined pattern look, making this easier on the eyes and a safer choice to wear multiple times ^^  More info found here.

THE CONVENTIONALSoia & Kyo – This one strays from the plaid into more of stripes.  I’m sorry, but none of the more economic options of plaids really looked decent in my opinion.  The one thing about a plaid coat that is simply plaid with a well defined and clean pattern is that you risk it being easily recognized or remembered… That’s why the three that I highlighted today fall into the blended plaid category. More info found here.

THE SPLURGE – Stella Jean – Again, I’m highlighting a more blended red plaid.  While the outlined red plaid worked for So Eun, I hesitate before opining that it’s a good staple for any closets… Now a blended red coat, would be a statement piece that you could rock every two weeks and still look stylish.  More info here.

THE CONVENTIONALBB Dakota –  This is more of a plaid but shorter length coat… I have to admit, there were very few pieces that were in red plaid that didn’t remind me of a lumberjack or a farmer… Though, we’re really only taking So Eun’s jacket as an inspiration here, I thought this was a cute jacket for the warmer winter days. More info here.

Pinocchio – Yoo Rae’s Green Winter Style

Today’s d*inspiration comes from episode 12 of SBS’ drama Pinocchio. In this episode, Yoo Rae pulls off an effortless but chic winter style with a khaki green parka matched with skinny black jeans.  Yoo Rae still appears cute and young because of the puffy green parka, hairdo, and backpack. For those wanting to sport a younger look without going overboard with the hair, this is an easy outfit to achieve since you can pile on the layers and still look cute when you throw on the parka.  The cute effect is emphasized by the I-WORE-TONS-OF-LAYERS-BECAUSE-IT’S-FREEZING top heavy look.  It seems that the fur trim on jackets/parkas is trending this year in Korean fashion.

This look is best for the days that you just want to throw on a tunic + sweater before donning the jacket…Or if you will be outside a lot. Finish with an oversized scarf and your favorite boots.

Yoo Rae’s outfit for this episode was sponsored by various Korean companies.

Yoo Rae’s khaki/green parka is from V+EL, the Korean fashion company V+EL, which seems to be a project or a sub-company of Voice of Voices. Voice of Voices is known for modern street fashion and is mainly sold within South Korea in their malls.

Yoo Rae’s black skinny jeans were from Jack & Jill a/k/a J&J, which is a contemporary Korean fashion company with mainly a domestic distribution.  Their motto is that their clothes are urban street casual.

Since it’s difficult to navigate a lot of Korean sites, I found similar pieces on English websites.  I think you can pull off this look with similar pieces from your own closet, because who doesn’t have a pair of black skinny jeans?  I still wear my 7 for Mankind pair that I bought from the outlet years ago ^^  However, I do find these Michael Kors ones quite tempting… Nevertheless, one can always get black skinny jeans for as cheap as $10.00 from stores like H&M.

Additionally, a green khaki parka is great as a winter staple.  It fits in perfectly during December because people think you’re dressing up for Christmas.  Afterwards, as you can see in the picture, you’ll stand out effortlessly as most people trend toward dark greys and blacks during winter.  Meanwhile, you don’t have to worry about being as flamboyant as wearing the red coat ^^

Sweden Laundry: The Statement Sweater

Happy New Year everyone!  Starting off the new year, I wanted to launch DRAMAFEED’s D*INSPIRATION.  As much as I love watching drama, I also like shopping and commenting on fashion trends.

Turning to Sweden Laundry’s Bom Kim.  Not sure how many of DRAMAFEED’s readers watch this series, but if you have time, I’d check it out.  It’s a fun feel good episodic series.  In other words, each episode has a mini-story arch and the story finishes within that arch.  The premise of the story is that the main girl, Bom, runs a cute laundromat and has the power to see certain customers’ through their clothes.  This power is both a blessing and a curse because if she doesn’t help the customer solve that problem, bad luck follows Bom around.  It shows once a week on Fridays.

Now, for the main point of this post.  Bom is a post-college graduate and a recovering corporate worker.  Specifically, she used her retirement funds from her days at a company to set up this laundry.  Yet, her main fashion style is the casual, clean-cut sweater style with a dash of bright/preppiness.  Generally, she wears a longer tunic shirt with a pullover sweater on top.  The sweaters can either be the longer type or short enough to show a little bit of her tunic shirt underneath.  Personally, I like it when we can see a little bit of the underneath tunic because it adds detail and depth to the outfit.  Usually, she throws the sweaters on top of jeans, but I think they would also look great on top of black leggings or black leather pants.  Once winter hit, she usually adds a puffy jacket on top to complete her outfits.

Scouring the internet for some similar preppy cute sweaters, I found the following.  Enjoy! ^^

I’m probably going to spring for the gray bear sweater.  I’d love to pair it up with my black leather pants for a weekend date or shopping! >.<
